A trip to the pumpkin patch is one of those things that your kids will remember forever! It's almost that season again here in the Treasure Valley.

Seriously, I'll remember one trip my sister and I took with our mom to the pumpkin patch for the rest of my life.  We weren't a pumpkin carving family, but we still loved picking out pumpkins for my sister and I every year! One year, we picked out some pre-painted pumpkins and at the age of 6, I became really attached to mine.  It had a silly face with a big nose painted on it and I decided to name him "Pumpky."  One day, a few weeks after we grabbed him from the pumpkin patch, I noticed something in my room smelled funny.  My parents came upstairs and took a look at the pumpkin.  It was rotting and I was devastated that we were going to have to throw him away.

Kudos to my mom coming up with a quick story to get me to stop crying. She told me she'd take it to Giant Eagle (our local grocery store) to have the bakery turn him into a pumpkin pie.  For some reason, that was an acceptable to my broken 6-year-old, pumpkin pie loving heart.  The sad part? I believed that story for 10 years.  It wasn't until I had my drivers license and started going to the grocery store on my own that I realized my mom's story was a big fat lie!

It's a hilarious story to tell people and like I said, I'll never forget that trip! Want to make some of those memories with your child? Last year, Only In Your State ranked "9 Charming Pumpkin Patches in Idaho" and five near the Treasure the Treasure Valley made the list! Opening weekend for these locations is still a few weeks away, but add them to your list of fall "musts!"
