Aztecs Stay Perfect: Jessup Closes in on Fredette

The Mountain West basketball season is getting interesting on several fronts.

San Diego State continued it's unbeaten season with a 71-67 thriller at UNLV Sunday. The Aztecs are now 21-0 overall the only unbeaten team in the AP Top 25 college basketball poll but they were certainly tested by UNLV yet survived to improve to 10-0 in conference play.

Boise State followed up it's improbable 18 point comeback win over Utah State with an 87-53 win at Fresno State. These days wining on the road in the Mountain West is just as improbably as coming from behind from 18 points down.

In the process of winning in Fresno, Boise State's Justinian Jessup canned 5 three point shots to up his career total to 289, just 7 shy of the all time league record of 297 held by BYU's Jimmer Fredette.

The Fredette name is legendary in the Mountain West and now Jessup is making a name for himself as he continues to climb closer to the all time three point record.

The next opportunity for Jessup to chip away at Fredette's record will be Wednesday night when the Broncos host San Jose State.

The Spartans have been the doormat of the Mountain West for the last few seasons but not so much anymore. San Jose State beat Air Force over the weekend 90-81 for their 7th win of the season.

San Jose State is 3-6 in league, Boise State now 5-4. They'll collide Wednesday at 7 pm in Extra Mile Arena.

Meantime, San Diego State leads the Mountain West at 9-0, UNLV 6-2, Nevada 6-3, Boise State 5-4, New Mexico 5-4, Colorado State 5-4, Utah State 5-4, San Jose State 3-6, Air Force 3-6, Fresno State 2-7 and Wyoming 0-9.
