Best Season Ever For Boise State Softball

Unless you win the National Title, once you've made the NCAA Tournament your season is destined to end with a loss.

Such was the case for Boise State softball on Sunday but despite the loss the Broncos can look back on a season of remarkable achievement.

Florida beat Boise State 5-0 at the NCAA Regional Final in Gainesville, Florida officially ending a historic season for the Boise State as the first Bronco team in program history to win a tournament game, later surpassing that milestone by also reaching the regional final.

“This is a wonderful place to play, it’s what softball should be all about as the sport’s growing,” said head coach Maggie Livreri. “It’s pretty cool to be a part of. As much as we didn’t necessarily score a bunch of runs or do some of the things that we wanted to do, it was fun to see it all and be a part of it. And it’ll help us in the forward as we move forward.”

The 36 wins this season are the second-highest total in program history, and advanced Boise State to the NCAA Tournament for the second-straight season — the first as an at-large team in program history and the first BSU team to make a regional final.

The four-year seniors of Rebekah Cervantes, Morgan Lamb and Kora Wade went 123-90 over the course of their careers, including three-straight winning seasons. Rainey Dyreson, who transferred in at the start of the 2017 season, went 109-52 in her three seasons as a Bronco.

“From a team that’s gone from winning 12, 14 games to two seasons in the postseason, that’s incredible,” Cervantes said.
