Boise State Breaks Ground Today on Huge Fine Arts Center

The project has been years in the making, and today is the day Boise State will break ground on the new 100-thousand square foot fine arts center.  So when's it gonna be done?

The Center for Fine Arts will be made with limestone, and will look similar to the Idaho State Capitol, according to the artist renderings.  Boise Weekly says the new five-story structure be used for studio spaces and administration, and a smaller offshoot of that new limestone building will feature blue glass windows, and will include the classrooms and galleries.

When it's done, it will include more than 97,000 square feet of space, and will keep students and professors in one spot instead of spreading them out across campus. The whole thing will cost about $42 million.

Construction is expected to take a year or more, but when the growing pains are over, Boise State students in fine arts programs will have brand new study space, and local arts programs will be able to use the room as a collaboration with the school too.

The ground-breaking ceremony is scheduled for later today (Tuesday, May 2) and then watch for the construction process to really get going between the Micron Business and Economics Building and the Morrison Center for the Performing Arts.

Students who leave campus for the summer will notice big changes when they come back this fall.
