Boise State men’s basketball signed Lexus Williams to a Financial Aid Contract, head coach Leon Rice announced Thursday. Williams will be a redshirt senior next season and is eligible immediately after graduating from Valparaiso in May. He played in 83 games and made 44 starts during his career with the Crusaders.

“Lexus is an experienced point guard who knows how to play the position,” said Rice. “He’s been part of a winning program and we’re really excited to have him. He’s a great fit here. He’s going to make a difference for this team.”

A 6-foot, 165-pound point guard, Williams averaged 5.1 points, 1.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.1 steals per game in three seasons over the course of four years. He was named to the Horizon League All-Freshman Team as a true freshman in 2013-14 after averaging 6.5 points and 2.4 assists per game, while adding a team-high 35 steals.

Two knee injuries cost him the entire 2014-15 season and limited him to 16 games as a redshirt sophomore in 2015-16. He rebounded last season to play in all 33 games and make 21 starts, helping Valparaiso to a 24-9 record, a share of the Horizon League title and a spot in the NIT. Williams played 22.9 minutes per game as a redshirt junior, averaging 5.2 points, 2.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists and a team-best 1.4 steals per game while shooting 41.2 percent from the field and 32.6 percent from three-point range.

“I was surprised there was such a perfect fit for us right now,” Rice said of signing an accomplished Division I transfer in June. “The most important thing is the guys in our locker room, so we needed to bring in the right guy. I wanted a guy who knows how to win, knows how to run a team, is a good team guy, cares about the right things and has good character. He needed to check all those boxes. For us to get Lexus in June, yeah in that way I’m surprised but I’m really happy.”

Originally from Chicago, Williams attended Marist High School where he led the Redhawks to the regional final each of his last two seasons, including a title as a junior. On the AAU circuit, he played two years with the D-Rose All-Stars after playing with Ferrari
