The first College Football Playoff standings have been released and Boise State has a lot of company among the Group of 5 teams vying for a New Years Six bowl, namely the Cotton Bowl.

Boise State is number 22 surrounded by No.20 Cincinnati, No.21 Memphis, No.24 Navy and No.25 SMU, all from the American Athletic Conference.

That means Cincinnati is in the drivers seat but the Bearcats have a 42-0 loss to Ohio State and a pair of close win over UCF 27-24 and East Carolina 46-43.

As for Memphis, they lost to Temple, nowhere to be seen in the Top 25 but did beat Navy and SMU

Each Group of 5 team in the top 25 has one loss so from that stand point they're all on equal footing.and all need to win out.

Boise State has Wyoming this week. The Cowboys are 6-2 and then next week BSU plays New New Mexico, both games on the blue.

Then the Broncos hit the road for the final two games of the season, at Utah State and then Colorado State.

An 11-1 record with their only loss at BYU would give Boise State a strong argument for a Cotton Bowl bid but they need to win some games impressively down the stretch.

Face it, the College Football Playoff rankings are all for show and voters will be looking for the Broncos to dominate because that's what the voters have come to expect.

For the record, Ohio State, LSU, Alabama and Penn State are the top four teams in the CFP Poll with LSU and Alabama playing this week.
