All minor league baseball is about developing players for the majors and that includes the NW League, home to the Boise Hawks.

That doesn't mean winning isn't important. Divisional titles mean playoff action and that means extra games for extra experience and improvement. Right now it seems like no one wants to win the South Division title in the NW League.

Boise, Eugene and Hillsboro are all tied for first place at 10-12 and Salem-Keizer is just one game back thanks in part to their dominance of the Hawks each of the last two nights.

The Volcanoes erupted for a 12-3 win over Boise Wednesday and then a 14-5 spanking last night. One Wednesday Salem Keizer had a pair of 5 run innings and last night the Hawks watched their 2-1 lead become a 9-2 deficit when the Volcanoes tacked on 8 runs in the 5th.

The Hawks are 0-2 into a 15 game road trip and will play at Salem Keizer again tonight before heading to Eugene over the weekend. Somehow despite being outscored 26-8 the last two games Boise is in a three way tie for the division lead.

Moving forward the Hawks realize the wins need to come and the big innings for opponents have to stop if they hope to extend the season with some playoff action.
