The Boise hawks opened the home season last night with a walk off single in the 10th inning to beat Eugene 7-6, a fitting way to open the home season schedule.

The Hawks provided a pair of late inning heroics to win. Down 6-5 in the bottom of the 9th Boise rallied to tie the game at 6-all thanks in part to a double from Avery Romero

Then with the bases loaded in the 10th, Romero came to bat again and hit a bloop single to end the game. The Emeralds and Hawks play again tonight at Memorial Stadium.

Emerald features former Boise State linebacker Joe Martarano who hails from Fruitland. Following a season beset by injuries, Martarano decided to skip his senior year with BSU football and concentrate on a major league baseball career. He was 3 for 4 last night with 3 RBI so Joe did his part.
