Boise State senior guard Chandler Hutchison has been tabbed as one of the  10 candidates for the 2018 Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award .

Named after Hall of Famer and 1959 NCAA Final Four Most Valuable Player Jerry West, the annual honor in its fourth year recognizes the top shooting guards in Division I men’s college basketball.  A national committee comprised of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates in October, which has now been narrowed to just 10.

Hutchison, who is averaging 19.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game, is the only candidate who leads his team in points, rebounds and assists.

Before the season started, Hutchison was named the Mountain West Preseason Player of the Year by the 24 media members who cover the conference. Shortly after he was announced as one of 50 players named to the preseason Citizen Naismith Trophy Watch List.

The senior’s two most signature games so far this season came on Dec. 3, 2017 against Portland and Jan. 13, 2018 against San Diego State.

Hutchison recorded the first known triple-double in program history in going for 23 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists versus the Pilots. The triple-double was just the fifth in Mountain West history and is one of 19 in NCAA Division I this season.

Against the Aztecs, the Mission Viejo, Calif., native earned the single-game scoring record with 44 points on an incredible 15-of-21 performance from the field, including going 7-of-10 from behind the arc. The 44-point performance is tied for the fifth-highest single-game output in NCAA Division I this season.

Already with eight double-doubles (third in the Mountain West) and six 20-point, 10-rebound games this season, Hutchison has already tallied 243 points in conference play and leads the league in scoring averaging 24.0 points per game in 11 Mountain West contests.

His 12 career 20-point, 10-rebound games are No. 1 in school history while his 19 career double-doubles ranks third. He also ranks in the Bronco top 10 in career points (1,294 – 10th) and career rebounds (598 – 9th) while also ranking third in career wins (83).

In addition, Hutchison became just the 11th player in Boise State history to win a conference road game at every league venue in his career with a win at Fresno State (Jan. 10, 2018). John Coker (1992-95) was the last to accomplish the feat, which had not been done since Boise State was in the Big Sky. Hutchison is the sixth four-year Bronco to accomplish the feat.

In March, five finalists will be presented to Mr. West and the Hall of Fame’s selection committee for the 2018 Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award. The winner will be honored at ESPN’s College Basketball Awards presented by Wendy’s in downtown Los Angeles on Friday, April 6, 2018.
