Some claim this is the winter that won't go away but a sure sign of spring is the Idaho Fish and Game stocking program which in Southwest Idaho starts today.

Remember, all stocking of area waterways is subject to many factors but the plan is to begin stocking February 28th and continue through March.

Wilson Creek and the Marsing Highway Pond are some of the first waters to receive to 10 to 12 inch rainbow trout. About 250 are planned for Wilson Creek and 450 in the Marsing Pond.

Starting March 6th the Boise River will receive nearly 3,000 rainbow split between the upper and lower river. Again everything is dependent on weather, water conditions and other factors.

However, if you are looking for a sure sign of spring the trout stocking program is sure exciting.

They aren't stocking Lucky Peak but with warmer temperatures melting the ice on some favorite ice fishing areas and rivers beginning to run high, the word is bank fishing at Lucky Peak is a solid option. Worms, marsh mellows and shrimp seem to work best.

The Idaho Fish and Game department will be stocking area ponds, lakes and rivers the entire month of March with most of the activity after March 13th so the time to get the gear in shape is right now.
