The Idaho Vandals host Coastal Carolina Saturday at 3 p.m. and they'll be without senior leader and quarterback Matt Linehan.

Linehan hurt the thumb on his throwing hand in a loss to Troy November 2nd and while thanks to a bye week he's had almost two weeks to heal, head coach Paul Petrino says Linehan is not ready to play. Mason Petrino, the sophomore son of head coach Paul Petrino will start in Linehan's stead.

Dad says the younger Petrino has taken most of the reps in the last two weeks and predicts he will play well.

The 3-6 vandals need to win each of their remaining three games to become bowl eligible.

This is Idaho's final season in the Sun Belt before heading to the Big Sky in 2018 and Idaho has been in every game. All 5 Sun Belt games this year have been decided by one possession.

Boise State running back Alexander Mattison is 81 yards shy of 1,000 rushing yards. If Mattison can crack the thousand yard barrier it would be the ninth straight year the Broncos have produced a thousand yard rusher and that would tie Auburn for the current longest active streak.

Mattison has two regular season games to play, this Saturday at 8:15 p.m against Air Force and next week at Fresno State..
