Mountain View entered the 2018 high school football season knowing even though they were ranked the pre-season no.1 team in Idaho that nothing would be given to them and that nothing would come easy.

The Mavericks early schedule guaranteed there'd be no room for error starting with 3rd ranked Rocky Mountain opening night, followed by Capital and then Eagle the fourth week.

Last weeks game against Rocky Mountain, broadcast live here on 630 the Fan and played before a standing room only crowd, was scoreless at halftime.

Mountain View had a 38 yard touchdown run by Jaymon Barrus called back by a penalty in what would turn out to be a huge game breaker.

Rocky Mountain took a 9-0 lead before Mountain View scored to make it 9-6 but the Grizzlies successful two point conversion was called back by a penalty and the following point after kick hit the right upright.

That was 8 points the Mavericks saw wiped off the scoreboard by penalty. Rocky's Nick Romano made all that academic with a 63 yard td run late in the fourth quarter to seal the deal 16-6.

Friday night Mountain View has to play Capital who put up 56 points against Timberline. 630 the Fan will be there with live coverage starting at 7p.m. The Mavericks can ill afford to drop to 0-2 with Eagle in the wings.

Speaking of Eagle, this weeks other interesting game unfolds Thursday night with Eagle-Borah at Dona Larsen Park. The Mustangs and Lions are both 1-0 and each looked impressive in victory.
