In 5A high school football the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies rule the roost. They are the defending 5A state champions and have won 13 straight games.

Friday the Grizzlies face potentially their biggest threat to the 5A thrown when they travel to Mountain View to play the Mavericks.

The latest media polls have Rocky Mountain number 1 and Mountain View number 2. Both teams won their season opening games last week. Rocky Mountain struggled for three quarters before pulling away to beat Borah 35-15. The game was tied 15-15 heading into the 4th quarter.

Mountain View meantime rolled over Timberline 46-6 but how will the Mavericks handle the step up in competition?

It is a huge early season game with playoff implications and we'll have all the play by play action on Sports radio 630 The Fan, the McDonald's game of the week, kickoff at 7pm.

Here now a look the 5A State media Poll Top 5:

1.Rocky Mountain, 2.Mountain View, 3.Coeur d'Alene and a tie for 4th between Eagle and Highland.

There was a shakeup in the 4A media poll from the preseason because top ranked Bishop Kelly lost it's opener to Nampa which opened the door for Vallivue to move into the number one position. Bishop Kelly actually fell out of the Top-5.

Here is the 4A State media poll:

1. Vallivue, 2.Hillcrest, 3.Nampa and a tie for 4th between Middleton and Kuna. Kuna actually beat Middleton 34-28 opening night.

In the 3A media poll Homedale is the only SW Idaho team in the top 5 at no.2. Sugar-Salem is tops with Gooding, Timberlake and Snake River completing the list.
