Six straight road games down, just three more to go but all three are at Utah this week and the Grizzlies trail ECHL Mountain Division leading Idaho by just two points.

The Steelheads fell short of a comeback bid in a 4-2 loss to the Americans from Allen Event Center. Defenseman Jeff King (0:45 1st) opened the scoring on the first shot of the game to take an early 1-0 lead. The Americans scored three-straight goals through all three periods to bounce ahead, 3-1. Forward A.J. White (PP, 16:25 3rd) started the comeback bid with a late tally to draw within one, 3-2. However, a late Allen goal sealed their 4-2 win. Tomas Sholl (15-7-0) turned aside 19 of 22 shots in the loss.

Friday, February 1 @ Allen Americans: 6-3 W
Shots: Steelheads 35, Americans 24
PP: Steelheads 1-for-8, Americans 1-for-3

The Steelheads weathered a turbulent second period and took a 6-3 win over the Americans from Allen Event Center. Forwards Alex Dahl (13:25 1st) and Elgin Pearce (13:37 1st) scored on back-to-back shots to quickly double the lead to 2-0. The Americans answered back before Dahl (1:22 2nd) spread the lead again to 3-1. Two Americans goals led to a tie game, 3-3, before the first four minutes of the second period. The Steelheads closed out the game with three more goals starting with forward Reid Petryk (PP, 12:13 2nd) to edge ahead 4-3 before two empty net goals from defenseman Keegan Kanzig (EN, 18:42 3rd) and Pearce (EN, 19:59 3rd), sealing the 6-3 win. Ryan Faragher (7-3-1) halted 21 of 24 shots in the win.

Saturday, February 2 @ Allen Americans: 4-3 W (OT)
Shots: Steelheads 36, Americans 27
PP: Steelheads 2-for-6, Americans 1-for-8

The Steelheads edged out the Americans in a 4-3 overtime win from Allen Event Center to close the season series. The Americans jumped out first on a penalty shot before forward Brad McClure (PP, 7:51 1st) tied the game at 1-1. The pattern continued through the second period with forward Steve McParland (6:49 2nd) and defenseman Nolan Gluchowski (PP, 19:57 2nd) each answering the call to send the game to overtime, 3-3. Defenseman Brady Norrish (0:40 OT) sealed the 4-3 victory with a re-direction in front of the net. Colton Point (5-1-1) turned aside 24 of 27 shots in the win.

The Steelheads revisit their season series with the Utah Grizzlies for the second time in the road swing to close the nine-day road trip. The Steelheads took a one-game edge in the season set thanks to a win on January 21 to open the road trip in the only non-two game weekend of the series. The Steelheads currently own a 5-4-0 record against the Grizzlies heading into their last meetings until the final weekend of the regular season. Historically, the Steelheads are three wins from reaching 100 victories against an opponent for the first time in Steelheads ECHL history, owning a 97-46-24 record in the franchise series.

Quick Bites:

- Through six games of the road trip, forward Steve McParland leads the team with 10 points (5g, 5a) including four points last week. He becomes the first player on the team to reach 40 points (18g, 22a) on the season taking 41 games.

- Defenseman Nolan Gluchowski posted four points last week to lead Steelheads defenseman and has seven on the road trip. He sits tied for seventh among ECHL defensemen in scoring with 28 points (7g, 21a).

- The Steelheads stretched their scoring streak on the power play to four-straight games, going 5-for-23 (21.7%) in that span. It’s the longest point streak since their season-high five-game streak from December 22 through January 5.
- After two weeks, the Steelheads are 4-2-0 in their nine-game, three-week road trip heading into their final week. The Steelheads have not lost more than once in the same week since the week ending on November 11 (12 weeks).
