The NFL is a funny animal, when it comes to scouting and drafting players you never know what direction they go on a given player.

Leighton Vander Esch of Boise State is a perfect example. The junior linebacker leaving school for the NFL Draft has all of a sudden become a hot topic.

At 6-4 240 pounds Vander Esch is trying to complete the dream of a small town boy playing 8-man football, walking on to Boise State and now being counted among the top 10 linebackers in the NFL Draft.

Last year nine linebackers were taken in the first two rounds of the draft which means Vander Esch could well become a 2nd round pick!

Mel Kiper of ESPN said after taking a second look at Vander Esch he loves what he see's. I agree because I watch Vander Esch cause havoc all season but Kiper also had Wyoming QB Josh Allen as the #1 overall pick in a mock draft.

Say what? Allen is good but remember what Vander Esch and the Broncos did the Allen and the Cowboys this year? Based head to head I'd make Vander Esch the #1 overall pick. Not really but Vander Esch is certainly more a potential NFL stud than Allen.

Boise States other potential draft pick in April is wide receiver Cedric Wilson. Wilson will play in the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama January 27th and will have his chance to impress a lot on NFL eyeballs.
